During the past 150-years, there are several ethnic immigrants that lived not far from hotel location, such as Pakistani and Indian, who migrated into Thailand via Myanmar, also known as "Pathan". These groups of people are traders and glaziers. Local Lanna people would call them "Gula Dum" or in Thai “กุลาดำ”.

Another groups of people who migrated and settled in Chiang Mai, is European. Most of them are Catholic priest and their mission is to promote evangelism in Chiang Mai. They also built Catholic schools in order to give local people the good education. Some of those schools are Regina Coeli, Sacred Heart and Montfort College. Local Lanna people would call this group of European people "Gula Kow" or in Thai “กุลาขาว”.

There are two groups of Chinese who migrated and live in Chiang Mai. One of them is Chinese people called “Chin Haw” who migrated to Thailand via Burma or Laos during China communist regime. Most of them were from Yunnan, the southern province of China and they are Muslim, also known as Hui people or Hui Muslim. They settled and lived in Chiang Mai between Chang Klan and Chareon Prathet road.

Another group is Chinese citizens residing in countries other than China. They came to Thailand by a junk, an ancient Chinese sailing ship. This group of Chinese mainly settled near the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok. Many of them worked in government, while others were involved in trading.  From Bangkok, they travelled to Chiang Mai through Ping River by Scorpion Tailed Boat to trade and live on Chang Klan Road and Chang Moi. This Oversea Chinese group is called "Hua Chiew" or in Thai “หัวเฉียว”.
